Our Story
Finger Lakes Martial Arts Center was established to give students an environment where martial arts can be practiced seriously without ego or intimidation. Classes are built around mutual respect, strong fundamentals, purposeful repetition, continual improvement, and productive training.
The academy serves children, teens, and adults with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and traditional Kung Fu instruction. Students may arrive with different goals—fitness, confidence, self-defense, competition, discipline, or personal growth—but everyone is expected to contribute to a safe, focused, and respectful training environment.

Jerry Martin
Owner and Head Instructor
Jerry Martin is the owner and head instructor of Finger Lakes Martial Arts Center. With more than 36 years of martial arts training experience and over 26 years of teaching experience, he has been a dedicated martial arts educator in Geneva for more than two decades.
He holds a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Purple Belt and is a Yee's Hung Ga Kung Fu Sifu, 2nd Dan. Jerry began training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Coach Ben Tallini in 2018, leading to Finger Lakes Martial Arts Center becoming Haven Jiu Jitsu's first official affiliate location.
As a regular Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitor, Jerry has earned multiple IBJJF Masters podium finishes, most recently 2026 IBJJF European Champion, 2026 IBJJF Brazilian Champion, and IBJJF Pan American Silver Medal Winner. He also earned a Silver Medal at the 2014 World Hung Kuen Tournament in Taishan, China.
